Container Vegetable Garden Workshop

Scott is teaching a vegetable container garden workshop Tuesday, March 21, 6-7 pm, at Ordean East Middle School.   If you attend the workshop, you’ll receive a packet of vegetable seeds and a planting container.  Scott believes in giving back to his community, so the $10 material fee will be donated to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank.

SGG Seeds & Kits

Seed packaging has begun.  Sydney’s Green Garden seeds and container gardening kits will soon be available for purchase.

This year SGG is offering six bean varieties, two each of beets and pumpkins, and squash, five of carrots, lettuces and peas, and three of cucumbers.  Yaya carrots are back again this year, as well as Rattlesnake pole beans.   New this year is Carmel spinach, a fast growing semi-savoy with dark green leaves and an upright growth habit.

Seeds and kits will be available at the Bookstore at Fitger’s and Engwalls in Hermantown.  Seeds will be available at Mount Royal Market on Woodland Avenue.  For your convenience, seeds and kits will also be available online.  We’ll keep you posted here when the seeds and kits are ready.

Many Types & Varieties

Sydney’s Green Garden will plant vegetables in containers at the newly opened Boat Club Restaurant & Bar here at Fitger’s.  We plant it in June when danger of frost is past us.  The garden is located just outside the big windows of the restaurant that face the lake.  If you’re a regular at Fitger’s you can watch the progress of the garden.  We will plant tomatoes, peppers, squash, pumpkins, carrots, beans, beets, Swiss chard, spinach, peas, lettuces and herbs.  Last year we experimented with Greek oregano  and chives; they grew beautifully along with the rest of the garden – it’s a fun garden!

Scott’s early container gardening endeavors on a snowmobile trailer

In the early years Scott started out with several containers.  As the container gardens proved successful over the years, he has added more and more containers.  We’ll post photos when Scott gets his containers planted later this spring – you’ll be amazed at the success of his plants!

We’re looking forward to another great container vegetable growing year
