Father’s Day

Hello Friends of Sydney’s Green Garden,

It’s another beautiful week here in the Northland!

Scott’s container gardens are growing great. Spinach, peas, and squashes are up and looking good. Potatoes should be blooming in a couple weeks – it’ll be a joy to see the flowers! Broccoli and Brussels sprouts are growing great as well.

Here at Fitger’s, Midi’s garden is looking great. Peas are really growing! Lettuces are healthy and will be ready for salads before too long. Spinaches are up and should soon take off. Carrots are just up and taking their time – but they’ll be so worth the wait!! Stop by and see the Midi garden for yourself if you’re out and about on the Lakewalk.

Very exciting news: A few days ago I planted SGG containers in Superior – will keep you posted on these delayed plantings. Sunday’s gentle rain helped some seeds germinate – will keep you posted on the progress. I also planted some 2013 and 2014 seeds to test their viability – will keep you posted on my experiment.

There’s still time to plant seeds in containers if you want some fresh from the plant veggies. This weekend is Father’s Day and some quality planting time with dad will create memories for the whole family, so be sure to pick up your Sydney’s Green Garden kits and seeds soon. Shop our online store or visit our three convenient locations here in Duluth (Mount Royal Foods, Engwall’s in Hermantown, and The Bookstore at Fitger’s).

Also, if you have any gardening questions you can email us at: grow@sydneysgreengarden.com; we’d love to hear from you!

Happy Gardening,
Your Friends at Sydney’s Green Garden

Beautiful June Days

Hello Friends of Sydney’s Green Garden,

The containers are planted at MIDI Restaurant, located at Fitger’s on the Lake. Soon you’ll be able to order items from the menu that are picked fresh from the garden! It always tastes so much better when it’s fresh, don’t you agree? While you’re out walking Duluth’s Lakewalk eating your Bridgeman’s ice cream, be sure to stop by and check out the garden – if you see Scott out tending the plants, stop and say hi. He’ll be happy to answer your questions.

Most seeds and plants can be planted now – just be sure to watch the weather for frost so you can cover your containers if need be.

Seeds and container gardening kits are still available at Mount Royal grocery store, Engwalls in Hermantown, and at The Bookstore at Fitger’s. We also have our online store up and running. Be sure to contact us if you have any questions: grow@sydneysgreengarden.com

We’ll be updating with current photos, so be sure to check back.

Enjoy these beautiful June days,

Your Friends at Sydney’s Green Garden!

Happy Memorial Day

Hi there friends of Sydney’s Green Garden

Many of you may have put off planting vegetable seeds due to cold and rain. Scott planted spinaches, potatoes, and lettuces a couple weeks ago. They’re not doing much yet since it’s not very warm. Hopefully in the next week we’ll see and feel some sun!

As the planted seeds germinate and we get additional seeds planted we’ll give you updates. Meanwhile, prepare your planters. Have your seeds, container kits, planting soil, bamboo stakes (and mulch if you use it), on hand for that splendidly warm planting day that’s sure to grace us.

We have SGG container gardening kits and seeds ready to ship to you – order at this website. The kits and seeds are also available at The Bookstore at Fitger’s, Mount Royal Fine Foods and Engwall’s in Hermantown. Be sure to stop by soon for the best selection (our carrots sell out fast).

Memorial Day weekend is coming soon – time to wind down, get your planting soil, kits, and seeds all ready to start planting. You don’t want to miss the next beautiful planting day!!

Happy planting and have a great Memorial Day weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day – 2015

Hello Friends of Sydney’s Green Garden

This is a great time of year. Our days are warmer and the fun and excitement begins – it is cool crop planting time! Scott planted his asparagus last week and will begin planting some containers this weekend with spinach and potatoes – and soon peas will be planted.

If you’re looking for a fun and creative gift for Mother’s Day, why not give a SGG container gardening kit? Mom will surely enjoy getting such a thoughtful and useful gift. Also, container gardening takes up considerably less space than a traditional garden plot. So, if the mother in your life likes to be outdoors, get a little dirty, and have fresh homegrown vegetables, give her a Sydney’s Green Garden container garden kit – it’s easy and fun! PS – if mom already has planting containers, SGG has many packets of seed varieties to choose from. You can shop for seeds and garden kits at The Bookstore at Fitger’s, Mount Royal Fine Foods, and at Engwall’s in Hermantown.

Scott will present container gardening workshops for your group or club. He also loves to work with local schoolchildren – he helps them plant a container with some vegetables seeds and they get to keep it and watch it grow. Contact Scott at grow@sydneysgreengarden.com to learn more and schedule a workshop.

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Mother’s Day to all mother’s out there – you deserve a special day.

Hello Friends of Sydney’s Green Garden

The SGG workshop at Whole Foods Coop was a great success. I send a big “thank you” to all who attended. You were a great audience – you asked lots of questions and gave great feedback. Have a great weekend and think green!

Happy Earth Day on Wednesday

Hello to SGG Friends,

My SGG workshop this Wednesday at Whole Foods Coop is full – too bad they only have room for 20 attendees. Watch for upcoming SGG workshops at local gardening club meetings and sign up early so you’re sure to get a seat! If your school is interested, I also give workshops to school children in local schools. It’s so much fun to see the excitement on the kid’s faces as they plant their seeds – they love growing their very own vegetable plants.

SGG kits and seeds will be set up at Mount Royal Foods and Engwalls in Duluth this week – I’ll give an update when they’re actually onsite. Check out www.sydneysgreengarden.com to see our new seed line up and to order online. The Bookstore at Fitger’s has our full line up of SGG seeds and container gardening kits available, too. Be sure to buy your favorite seeds early as we do have a limited quantity of some varieties.

Very soon we’ll all be planting and I can’t wait!

Will March Come in Like a Lamb?

Hello Friends of Sydney’s Green Garden

Will March arrive mild and hospitable? Hope so! Even if it does though, we still eagerly await those even warmer spring temperatures that entice us to work and play outdoors readying for our container gardening projects.

A while ago we mentioned SGG will hold container gardening workshops in the Duluth area. Scott will once again offer a container gardening workshop at Whole Foods Co-op – join him on Earth Day (April 22). Sign up early as seating is limited. You can order SGG container garden kits, seeds, and rain gauges that night.

Seeds are arriving steadily here at SGG and packaging operations will begin in March. Once again we have a nice variety of carrots, beans, peas, beets, spinach, lettuces, squashes, cucumbers, pumpkin, and our favorite herbs basil, dill, and cilantro to offer.

Enjoy this last week in February and be sure to check back soon for SGG seed and container gardening kit updates.

PS – don’t forget to mark your calendar for April 22 at Whole Foods Co-op

Happy Valentine’s Day

Hello Friends of Sydney’s Green Garden and Fellow Gardening Friends

We are once again enjoying a cool down after sampling milder winter weather for a couple weeks. Many of you were probably dreaming of working your soils on a warm spring day before reality set back in. The good news is we are on the downward hill heading toward spring-slowly-we are obviously having a bit more winter to endure.

This is always an exciting time here at SGG – seeds are ordered and should arrive over the next few weeks. Shortly after the seeds arrive we begin packaging operations.

This year should be a promising growing year with many of the standby bean, pea, beet, cucumber, squash, herb, and carrot varieties you’ve grown to trust from Sydney’s Green Garden seeds. Sydney’s Gourmet Salad Blend, Mokum, Bolero, Nelson, and Purple Haze carrots are just a few seeds SGG will once again offer to customers.

Our website updates will show Sydney’s Green Garden seed lineup for 2015, as well as any changes to our container gardening kits – check back often.

Happy Valentine’s Day,

Your Friends at Sydney’s Green Garden
